The Leadership Insight Series is part of the Leadership Academy, an initiative of our Sydney in 2032 strategy to support and develop our distinctly Sydney leaders. Over the course of the series, you will have the opportunity to hear from leaders from across academia, business, government and the community in conversation about leadership, and how it relates to our University values and hallmark leadership attributes. As our guests candidly share their experiences and reflections on leadership, you will gain valuable insights and inspiration on approaches that can be applied to your own role and how you “turn up” as a leader.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn from remarkable leaders from diverse backgrounds and industry areas over the course of the series.

The compelling conversation between Professor Leisa Sargent and the Hon. Greg Combet AO, Chair of the Future Fund, former Minister for Climate Change and Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU).

This session explored leadership through the lens of our University hallmark leadership attributes and values, offering candid reflections and practical inspiration for how we “turn up” as leaders at Sydney.

With a distinguished career spanning government, superannuation, investment, climate policy, and industrial relations, Greg brings a wealth of experience and insight into leadership in complex and evolving contexts.

This session of the Leadership Insight Series focussed on Campus Collaboration.

Professor Lucy Marshall, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Community and Leadership), moderated a robust and exciting conversation with special guests Dr Kate Harrison Brennan, Director, Sydney Policy Lab; Associate Professor Sophie Gee, Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow; and Professor Danielle Celermajer, Discipline of Sociology and Criminology.

In this engaging session you can enhance your understanding and gain insights into current campus dynamics and steps being taken for fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion to contribute to a stronger, more resilient University community.

The second session of the Leadership Insight Series in November featured Prof. Annamarie Jagose, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in conversation with Adam McCurdie, Co-Founder and CEO (Humanitix.) More than 250 leaders tuned in to the conversation with Adam, who shared his journey in founding Humanitix and his experience in developing and applying the hallmark leadership attributes of being courageous and adaptable.

The first Leadership Insight Series event took place on Tuesday 13 August 2024, with Mark Scott (Vice Chancellor and President) in conversation with Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz (President, Chief Executive Women.) The session explored Susan’s experience as a leader across a diverse range of organisations, and the capabilities that are critical to leadership success.
